The Truth As Told

Shankar Mahāpralayankar dropped into a chair.

He looked at his niece, looked at Kħadījah Muħammad and then smiled at me.

“I’m willing to pay any fee reasonable, to you, as my lawyer. I know you are the best.”

“Thanks.” I smiled.

“Not at all. They say you fight only for extraordinary Musalmān Beauties in distress.”

“Not particularly.” I smiled, “They exaggerate it. But yes, most of the cases I fought, had extraordinary Musalmān Beauties as defendants.”

“That’s what I meant.”

“What’s your trouble exactly?”

“My wife, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, is getting divorce from me.”

“You married a Musalmān Beauty?”

“A Saůūdī Årab Panjvaqtah Namāzī Wahābī Musalmān Beauty.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled at me, “It’s normal now. Almost every powerful Hindu, however infinitesimal his power maybe, nowadays, marries extraordinary Musalmān Beauty. If he can manage he prefers a Saůūdī Årab Panjvaqtah Namāzī Wahābī Musalmān Beauty too.”

“I see.”

“You are yourself called now Hindu Al Buůūlatul Muslimāt, Musalmān ħasīnāonHindu Kħasam, Hindu husband of Musalmān Beauties. Don’t you?”

I smiled.

“You are right.”

“I married Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid because I wanted to teach her a lesson.”

“Oh!”

“Muħammad Ibrāhīm is my closest friend. Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid made him to attempt suicide. He is now in jail for attempting suicide.”

“She was married to your friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm?”

“Yes. Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid bled Muħammad Ibrāhīm white. When he couldn’t keep up the alimony payment and his business overhead, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid threatened to have him thrown in jail. That alarmed the creditors of my friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm.”

“Oh, oh.”

“The bank called his loans even.”

“I see. You mean Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid is far smarter than your friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm?”

“Of course, she is. She told Muħammad Ibrāhīm that Musalmīn can’t afford now Musalmān Beauties. They must leave them for Hindus only. And if not, the incompetent Musalmīn will be get punished by the concerned Musalmān Beauties similarly.”

“She hates Musalmīn?”

“Not Musalmīn, Musalmān husbands. And she is running even a movement for it.”

“Great. A Musalmān feminist?”

“Sure. What else?”

“So many intellectual Musalmān Beauties are running similar movements now. Isn’t it?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled.

“It’s natural, I think.”

“Natural?”

“Why not? Most of the Musalmīn hate unislamic education. Most of them are either uneducated or under educated, consequently. It results, furthermore, in their comparative incompetence to run modern business, social and political affairs, bringing them down financially. Financial problems lead them to crimes. Most of the Musalmīn therefore either are criminals or criminal minded. How a learned Musalmān woman, therefore, can agree ever to have a Musalmān husband?”

“You are right. You married Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid to teach her a lesson?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled.

“She had to marry someone. I offered myself.”

“You love her?”

“I’m not foolish enough to love her.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar retorted curtly, “Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid is a gold digger, an alimony hound. She doesn’t deserve anybody’s love.”

“I see.”

“She has a very beautiful, extremely beautiful, Saůūdī Årab Panjvaqtah Namāzī Wahābī Musalmān body. I enjoyed it, and still enjoying.”

I watched him with certain admiration.

“How could you manage it?”

He smiled.

“Don’t want to tell me?” I smiled.

“They call you Hindu Al Buůūlatul Muslimāt, Musalmān ħasīnāonHindu Kħasam, Hindu husband of Musalmān Beauties. Naturally, when it comes to you to choose between my wife and me, my wife Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid would be your natural choice.”

“Well, I’m never interested in HindusMusalmān wives, however beautiful they maybe. There are millions of them still left for me. Aren’t there?”

“It’s very nice of you. But you were not interested in my niece too.”

“I see. You think your wife Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid can also rape me?”

“She is frustrated. She can do anything.”

“Still you want to keep her to yourself?”

“Not as a wife anymore. She doesn’t love me. And she is dangerous.”

“I see.”

“More dangerous than even a man of your caliber can handle?” I smiled.

“If you are not in competition with me, I can show her she isn’t the only one who has brains.”

“I’m not in competition with the men who love their friends to the extent you do.”I said with a feeling, “I respect Sukr’ts. I fight with, and humiliate, dushkr’ts only.”

He looked at me respectfully.

“I want Muħammad Ibrāhīm out of jail, Durgesh.” Shankar Mahāpralayankar also said now with a feeling.

“I understand. I feel jealous of your friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm who is lucky enough to have such a loyal friend as you are.”

“Thank you. But you don’t know what Muħammad Ibrāhīm has done for me.”

“Muħammad Ibrāhīm is more loyal to you?”

“I’m not even the shadow of Muħammad Ibrāhīm.”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar gritted his teeth.

“Sālī Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid. Imagine I called her ‘Bhābhījān’ once.”

“It’s all right, Chachājān.”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah tried her best to control her tears back, “Please, control yourself. So far, my Kħālājān, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, still has the winning hand over you. She can prove you attempted to murder her.”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar laughed.

“She can’t prove a damn thing, Fātimah. I was walking in my sleep.”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar did not come alone there.

He had his half daughter, Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm, also with him.

She was his friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm’s daughter, from Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, living with Shankar Mahāpralayankar now, and not with her own Ammī, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid.

“Bājī, my dear Fātimah Bājī, dad did it deliberately. He doesn’t walk in sleep.”

“What?”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah was all alert suddenly.

I watched Shankar Mahāpralayankar cautiously.

Kħadījah Muħammad also looked at Shankar Mahāpralayankar in quite admiration.

For some moments, there was a pleasant surprised silence.

Then Shankar Mahāpralayankar himself broke it gravely.

“I wanted to frighten Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid to death.”

“Allah Allah Kħairsallā’h. Chachājān, you—”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah even could not complete her sentence.

Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled cunningly.

“I can never forget her extremely terrified face when she saw me as if walking in my sleep, having the carving knife in my hand and seeking for her. How she rushed to the bedroom! I still enjoy it very much whenever I remember it.”

“I—”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah said, “I still can’t believe it that it was nothing but your acting.”

“You don’t know what Muħammad Ibrāhīm is for me, my child.”

“Allah, Chachājān, and I wanted Durgesh to put you under treatment without you knowing anything about it.”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar laughed.

We, all of us, also laughed now.

“Well, there isn’t any need to change even a bit anything scheduled.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar announced, “Is there, Durgesh?”

“Well,” I said gravely, “aren’t you playing rather dangerous even with the law?”

“Don’t you yourself do it, every now and then, for Musalmān Beauties?”

“Correction please. For innocent Musalmān Beauties.”

“Innocent or otherwise, you do it. Don’t you?”

“Only when I’m more than even hundred percent sure I can manage it without any adverse possibility.”

“Isn’t it wrong ethically?”

“Would it be more ethical if I let them get punished for the crimes they never did?”

“Well—”

“Their communal, honor killer, enemies try to get benefits of drawbacks and shortcomings in the enforcement of legal proceedings, in their vile interests. I manage them not to succeed in it. You say it’s wrong ethically? How?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar watched me with interest.

Durgesh, you do it for the Musalmān Beauties you fuck. I’m doing it for my extremely loyal friend Muħammad Ibrāhīm. If you are not wrong ethically, how am I?”

Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm suddenly changed the subject.

Perhaps she didn’t want to let the tension in the environment survive.

“Dad’s getting married, Fātimah Bājī.”

Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah smiled.

“I know. And I appreciate, Chachājān for it. It’s a very brilliant decision and it’d raise Kħālājān’s blood pressure high.”

I looked at Shankar Mahāpralayankar questioningly.

He only smiled.

Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah replied me.

“With my friend philosopher and guide Dr. Furqān Tafhīm.”

“I see.” I commented shortly.

“Dr. Furqān Tafhīm helped and guided me in getting my PhD.”

“Very smart.”

“She is even more beautiful and smarter than my Kħālājān Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid.”

“You want them to fight with each other relieving your Chachājān, Shankar Mahāpralayankar, in this way?”

“Is it a good idea?”

“I’ve already appreciated it. Very smart, indeed.”

“I like and respect Dr. Furqān Tafhīm very much. She understands nervous temperaments too.”

“Very brilliant. It would give a legal shield too to your Chachājān, Shankar Mahāpralayankar that he really walked in sleep when he tried to stab your Kħālājān with the carving knife.”

“Dr. Furqān Tafhīm is thirty four or five. She loves Chachājān, Shankar Mahāpralayankar, but could not tell him before he married my Kħālājān.”

“No, Fātimah.” Shankar Mahāpralayankar contradicted Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah, “Dr. Furqān Tafhīm told me.”

“What?”

“Yes, but I wanted then to teach a lesson to your Kħālājān for what she did to her husband, my friend, Muħammad Ibrāhīm.”

“You refused to Dr. Furqān Tafhīm, Chachājān?” Fātimah asked incredulously.

“I promised her to marry her when your Kħālājān divorced me.”

“It was all in the planning?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled patronizingly.

“What else a wife can do if she found her husband trying to kill her?”

“Allah Allah Kħairsallā’h.”

“What’s holding you up?” I smiled at Shankar Mahāpralayankar, “Why don’t you marry Dr. Furqān Tafhīm?”

He looked at Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm.

Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm twisted uneasily under his eyes.

Then she said.

“Ammījān won’t let them.”

“Why not?” I asked Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm abruptly.

“Ammījān is going to make a lot of trouble. Even the divorce is not final yet. Moreover Ammījān is going to claim that dad, Shankar Mahāpralayankar, lied to her about the extent of his property and a lot of other stuff.”

“I see.”

“No. You can’t see. My Ammījān is a hell cat you can’t even think until you meet her yourself.”

“You don’t love your Ammījān, Al Jamāl?”

“I hate her. She punished my Abbū for his generosity. If a wife is as my Ammījān is, no man would marry ever any woman. Mahésh says he would marry me only if I’d promise never to go to my Ammījān, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, except only to see her. ”

“Mahésh?”

“Mahésh Gosvāmī is Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm’s boy friend.” Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah smiled.

Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm’s cheeks turned pink.

She shied.

Then she controlled herself and said.

“My Ammījān, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, is going to claim dad Shankar Mahāpralayankar is insane. He has homicidal tendencies and he’ll kill someone if he’s not placed in a sanitarium. My Ammījān wants to be appointed the custodian of his property.”

I watched Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm.

“Your dad, Shankar Mahāpralayankar, is worried about it? He can’t face the situation brought by himself?”

“Brought by myself?”Shankar Mahāpralayankar interrupted my conversation with his half daughter.

“You said you played a sleepwalker only because you wanted to frighten your wife, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid. Didn’t you?”

“Of course. But— ”

“You want to say you didn’t plan it safe? You could not anticipate this situation in advance? Yet you played your game and put yourself in your immensely selfish wife’s hands?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar could not say he had done the blunder himself.

In the excitement of winning over deadly dangerous Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid he could not anticipate the aftereffects of what he had done.

Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm watched us both and said curtly.

“That is only a part of it. Dad has other troubles too.”

“Other troubles?”

“Dad himself would tell you about those troubles.”Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm said, “What Fātimah Bājī and I want from you is that, take care of dad from hereon. He is not as mature as you are. When he is excited, he acts on impulse without perfect planning. We want you to counteract his suicidal shortcomings in his planning. Keep him out of the sanitarium my Ammījān is now planning to send him to.”

“Isn’t it rather a tall order?”I smiled.

“Not for you.”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah said curtly, “you have to do it for me, not for my Chachājān, Shankar Mahāpralayankar.”

I smiled again.

“All the damage has already been done. And now in its rotten condition, you are dumping the problems on my lap.”

“Am I alone not enough, Durgesh?”Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah said curtly, “you want Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm too? Well— ”

“OK, okay. It’s all right. Let me see what I can do even now. How far your Kħālājān has gone with the divorce case?”I asked gravely.

Fātimah Muħammad Åbdullah looked at Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm.

“She’s had an interlocutory decree entered.”Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm told me.

“Under the present legal conditions of the case, after an interlocutory decree is once entered, the case can’t be dismissed.”I announced.

Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm smiled ironically.

“You don’t know my Ammījān, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, Durgesh. She is a she devil. Legislators cater to the female voters. My Ammījān, Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid, gets by because of those laws. Marriage is a racket with her. She knows all the tricks. There is a law, you know better than me yourself that a court can’t grant a final decree where the parties have reconciled. My Ammījān is going to file an affidavit that she and dad, Shankar Mahāpralayankar, have reconciled.”

“How do you know?”

“What nonsense? I’m her daughter. She is my real Ammījān.”

“So what?”

“What do you mean?”

“You are not in her side. You are still living with your Hindu dad, Shankar Mahāpralayankar who is trying to defeat her nonstop . How can she believe you? How can you know what she is planning to do with your dad?”

“I know.”Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm smiled shrewdly, “Don’t forget. She is my real Ammījān. I too inherit her genes.”

I smiled.

“Very good. Very well said. I respect such confidence in noble women, like you.”

“Thanks.”Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm smiled.

I turned to Shankar Mahāpralayankar.

“Have you reconciled with Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid?”

“Nonsense. She is playing her games. Don’t even you understand? Women like her rarely speak truth.”

“Then how can she prove you’ve reconciled?”

“No way. She can’t do it. I’m not born yesterday.”

“Let’s hope so.” I smiled.

“Thank you.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar also smiled, “Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid sued me for divorce mainly over some stuff that happened in Makkah Mukarramah. But with a few more things that happened when we shifted to Jabalpur, India, thrown in for good measure.”

“Where did she sue you?”

“Here at Jabalpur, India, of course.”

“How long had she been living in Makkah Mukarramah?”

“Not much. She lived at Seoni mostly.”

“Oh.”

“Due to your Pitr’shrī’s continuous  efforts, Hollywood has started its new productions in joint efforts with India at Seoni.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar said calmly, “Jablpur to Nagpur is now almost a new global city now. I had two pieces of Makkah Mukarramah property— one of them is still in my possession in the name of Al Jamāl Al Muħammad Ibrāhīm. The second is in the possession of Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid now.”

“I see.”

“I had extensive business interests here at Jabalpur, India. Now as a single city you can call it Seoni or Nagpur as well.”

I smiled.

“Why not Ved Nagar, the new name for the entire city now? Jabalpur, Seoni and Nagpur are now only the parts of it, bearing old names still now?”

“You are right, Ved Nagar.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar said, “Ghausiyah bint Kħuwaylid sued me for divorce. She claimed she didn’t have any money.”

“Didn’t have any money?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar smiled significantly.

“I knew she could do it. I was already prepared for it. My lawyers produced the multiple proofs she had lied to the court.”

“Brilliant.”

“I proved in the court that she had the plunder of a couple of previous marriages salted away. The court was furious. She had no other option except to surrender to me.”

“Smart.”

“I bargained with her that I’d agree to give her twenty thousand dollars per month alimony till she doesn’t marry with someone, on the condition that she would never refuse to share my bed till I want so.”

“She agreed?”

“Agreed? Happily. She felt even proud of her extraordinary Panjvaqtah Namāzī Saůūdī Årab Wahābī Musalmān Beauty that I couldn’t forget her even after what she’d tried to do to me.”

“Congratulations. So you fooled her successfully?”

“She hadn’t another option. She had to go to jail on account of her tremendous deliberate perjury, otherwise.”

“Very smart move.”

“Thank you.”

“What else?” I smiled.

“I’m in love.”

“Paying twenty thousand bucks every thirty days even, could not be a good medicine for you?”

“Nonsense.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar winked at me, “What else the money is for? She used to spend more money per month when she hadn’t filed for divorce. And she had the honorable status of being my wife too.”

“So you are pleased now with the present status of the situations?”

Shankar Mahāpralayankar grinned.

“We both are happy with it. We do still have sex with each other whenever we need it. And none of us has to bother now any marital responsibilities to each other. It suits her more.”

“I can understand. Any other troubles?”I smiled.

Shankar Mahāpralayankar sighed.

“Hell, lots of them. My partner for one.”

“Who is he?”

She.”Shankar Mahāpralayankar winked at me smiling.

I whistled.

“I think you are enjoying your life optimum.”

“Al Quddūs Al Qāzī.” he smiled significantly.

“Beautiful?”

“Extremely beautiful. Yet again as smart as a fox.”

“You love them smart?”

“I love them smart. I enjoy them very much on bed if they try to outsmart even me.”

“Al Quddūs Al Qāzī?”

“Al Quddūs Al Qāzī.”

“What about her?”

“We’re in partnership— a business in Makkah Mukarramah. I had to leave Makkah Mukarramah very suddenly.”

“Private reasons?”

“Private reasons. Hey Durgesh, what a man you are. You understand me more than anyone I met my whole life. Let’s be friends along with our business relations too. Am I honored?”Shankar Mahāpralayankar extended his right hand to me.

I gripped it.

“Let the pleasure be mine.”

“Nonsense. It’s mine, I say.”

We shook hands with warm greetings.

“Al Quddūs Al Qāzī was herself already a millionaire researcher when I found her in a multistory mansion, in one of the wealthiest districts in Makkah Mukarramah.” Shankar Mahāpralayankar said, “The problem was that her Ammījān Al Saåīdah Al Qāzī had run away from Makkah Mukarramah with a Hindu Satý Sanātan Shāshvat.”

“Satý Sanātan Shāshvat?”

“Satý Sanātan Shāshvat.”

“It was his name?”

“It was his name.”

“Shāshvat was his surname?”

“Shāshvat was his surname.”

“Well, I’ll be damned.”

“What do you mean?”
